Fear and anxiety pervaded the relatively peaceful Epe community after gunmen allegedly kidnapped an expatriate contractor working on the Epe Township expansion road project awarded by Lagos State Government.
It was gathered that the expatriate, one of the contractors handling the road project, was kidnapped late Monday evening at the site.
According to a source in Epe, police have deployed a detachment of Counter-Terrorism Unit to the area. As part of security measures to secure the entire area, an Armoured Personnel Carrier had been stationed at the project site as police officers embarked on a rescue mission.
Another top police source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the whereabouts of the kidnapped expatriate, whose identity was yet to be known, is still unknown. The Lagos State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ganiu Johnson, when contacted, declined to comment on the matter, but a top source in the ministry confirmed the kidnap of the expatriate contractor.
